Stretch or tear of the ligaments supporting the ankle joint, typically caused by rolling the foot inward.
Step-by-Step Guidance
Cease all physical activity immediately. Sit down and avoid putting any weight on the injured foot.

Place an ice pack wrapped in a thin towel on the outer ankle. Apply for 15-20 minutes every 2 hours.

Wrap an elastic compression bandage (ACE wrap) from the toes up to mid-calf. Wrap it snugly but not too tightly.

Lie down and elevate the ankle on pillows so it is higher than the level of your heart to encourage lymphatic drainage.

Monitor swelling and color. If the patient cannot walk 4 steps or pain is extreme, consult a physician.
