Airway obstruction in patients where abdominal thrusts are impossible or dangerous (late pregnancy or large frame). Chest thrusts are used instead.
Step-by-Step Guidance
Verify if they are unable to speak or cough. Confirm they are pregnant or cannot wrap arms around their belly.

Lean them forward and strike between the shoulder blades firmly 5 times with your hand heel.

Stand behind the patient. Place your arms under their armpits. Place your fist on the center of their breastbone.

Pull backward sharply, compressing the chest cage inward. Ensure the pressure is directly on the sternum.

Repeat the cycle of 5 back blows and 5 chest thrusts. Call emergency services immediately.

Immediate on clearing
Timeline is typical for uncomplicated healing. Always follow doctor guidance.
